The Issy Geshen Lamont Home for the Aged has completed the build and upgrade of its new frail care and dementia unit, providing specialised care for elderly residents living with dementia and related conditions. The new unit is designed to cater to the unique needs of the residents, providing them with a secure environment, specialised care staff, and tailored programming.
The new facility is a significant milestone for the Issy Geshen Home, which has been serving the elderly in the Lamontville community for more than sixty years. The upgrade is designed to improve the quality of life of frail elders living with dementia and related conditions, ensuring that they receive the highest level of care possible.
Guy Levene, Chairman at Issy Geshen Home said, "After many years of planning, and for the first time in its history, we are excited to announce the completion of the build and upgrade of the dementia unit. This upgrade is a testament to Issy Geshen Home's commitment to providing a comfortable and dignified environment for the elderly. We are grateful to our donor, the Victor Daitz Foundation, who funded the project, and has been instrumental in making this renovation project possible. Their generosity and support to the elderly in our community are inspiring, and we are grateful to the Board for their firm commitment."
The new frail care and dementia unit comprises: four x 4 bed wards, one x 1bed ward resulting in a total of 18 beds. The ablutions are frail care and wheelchair friendly.
"In addition to renovating the building and rooms, we need to provide new bedding, curtains, bedside lockers, and mattresses so that our elders can live their remaining years in dignity and comfort. We appeal to the public and the business sector to support this part of the project financially," added Levene.
David Simpson, Managing Trustee, The Victor Daitz Foundation said, "The Foundation has a strong relationship with the Issy Geshen Lamont Home and was very pleased to be able to assist with this project. The Foundation would only support projects which have the requisite high level of corporate governance with checks and balances, which the Issy Geshen Lamont Home is justifiably proud of. The Foundation’s mandate is to help communities in KZN which are in need, and this facility is certainly one which Lamontville needs."
