As winter approaches, we are reminded of the challenges faced by frail and vulnerable older persons. The biting cold and harsh weather conditions take a toll on their already fragile bodies, leaving them more susceptible to illnesses and related health issues brought about by the winter season. It is during these testing times that we, as a united community, must extend our helping hands and provide the warmth, care, and love that our elderly citizens so desperately need.
To address this pressing issue, we have launched our Winter Warmth Campaign, aimed at ensuring that no elderly person in our Home and in the community, goes through the winter season without the warmth they deserve. We firmly believe that every older person deserves to spend their golden years in comfort and dignity, surrounded by a community that cherishes and supports them.
Winter does not discriminate and affects us all, even more so the vulnerable persons in society. Elders are especially at risk without provisions to help them face the chill ahead. People with pre-existing medical conditions, usually related to heart and respiratory problems, are most at risk during the winter.
Cold temperatures can be dangerous to older people’s health as they increase the likelihood and severity of flu, chest infections and other respiratory problems and raised blood pressure, which puts people at greater risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Also, a hot, nutritious daily meal helps keep the cold away. Eating healthy food plays a massive part in keeping warm, strong and well in winter.
The Issy Geshen Lamont Home is appealing to the community and businesses to remember the needs of the elderly who are at risk this winter.
Your invaluable contributions to our Home have made a significant impact on the lives of our elders in the past. We are immensely grateful for your unwavering support and dedication towards building a better society. Today, we reach out to you once again, hoping to renew and strengthen our partnership to make this winter a little easier for those who need it the most.
Please help keep our elders safe and well by supporting our Winter Warmth campaign.
