Today marks an extraordinary milestone for Issy Geshen Home: 65 years of transforming lives with dignity, compassion and care. From our humble beginnings in 1960, we have grown into a vibrant community where elders feel safe, respected, and deeply valued — thanks to your generous support.
To kick off this milestone year, we hosted a joyful cake-cutting ceremony, symbolising the warmth and unity that define our Home. But that’s just the beginning! Throughout the year, we’re planning a range of festivities to honour our journey and celebrate the people who make it all possible:
- Storytelling Evenings - where elders share their remarkable life stories.
- An outing to Wilson’s Wharf for a yacht ride
- UShaka Marine World for a Sea World show
- A visit to the Durban Botanical Gardens
- A visit to the UKhozi FM studios. The national radio station also celebrates its 65th Birthday this year
And much more — all celebrating 65 years of impact and looking towards the future!
Every elder has a story that inspires us Mrs. Shandu, who has called Issy Geshen Home her safe haven for over a decade, shares: “This place is my family. Every day I feel respected and loved, and I’m so grateful for the kindness that surrounds me.”
Staff Nurse Gugu Zindela, who has dedicated 10 years of service, says: “It’s a privilege to work here. I’ve seen lives change, elders regain their dignity and families find peace knowing their loved ones are cared for.”
